Pagenet Inc. was a nationwide paging service provider that operated in the United States from 1981 to 2001. The company was founded in 1981 by John Palmer, who had previously worked for Motorola, and was headquartered in Dallas, Texas.
Pagenet Inc. was one of the first paging companies to offer nationwide coverage and quickly became a major player in the industry. By the mid-1990s, Pagenet had more than 10 million subscribers and was the largest paging company in the world.
However, the rise of cell phones and other wireless technologies in the late 1990s and early 2000s led to a decline in the demand for paging services. Pagenet Inc. filed for bankruptcy in 2001 and its assets were acquired by Arch Wireless, which was later acquired by USA Mobility.
Today, the paging industry is largely obsolete, but paging systems are still used in some applications where reliable wireless communication is needed, such as in hospitals and other healthcare settings.
